Introduction

The hybrid cylindrical roller bearing is composed of an outer ring, an inner ring, a cylindrical roller and a retainer. The outer ring and the inner ring of the bearing are made of high-hardness bearing steel, while the cylindrical roller is made of ceramic materials, such as silicon nitride ceramics. Compared with the same structure and size of the whole steel cylindrical roller bearing, the bearing has the advantages of high speed performance, high rigidity, low friction heat, long life and high reliability.

In high speed application, the roller end face and the edge of the roller ring wear and get stuck. Due to the high hardness of ceramic cylindrical roller, stress concentration is easy to occur when the bearing is running at high speed, leading to the failure of inner ring. In order to overcome the above defects, a hybrid cylindrical roller bearing ring is provided to improve lubrication efficiency, reduce friction, wear and stress concentration, and further increase the bearing’s ultimate speed and service life.

Basic Design Bearings

The NU design cylindrical roller bearing, which has two integral flanges on the outer ring and no flanges on the inner ring, is the standard basic design for hybrid cylindrical roller bearings.

Cages

XRL hybrid cylindrical roller bearings are fitted with one of the following cages:

●a glass fibre reinforced PA66 cage, window-type, roller centred (designation suffix P)

●a glass fibre reinforced PEEK cage, window-type, roller centred (designation suffix PH)

●a machined brass cage, riveted, roller centred (designation suffix M)

●a machined brass cage, window-type, inner or outer ring centred (depending on bearing design) (designation suffix ML)

When used at high temperatures, some lubricants can have a detrimental effect on polyamide cages.

Application

Commonly used in electric motors, especially traction motors, and in applications running under severe operating conditions.
