Cylindrical Roller Bearings: The torque calculation formula for TIMKEN cylindrical roller bearings is given below, where the coefficients depend on the bearing series and are listed in the table below: M = f1 Fß dm + 10-7 f0 (v x n)2/3 dm3 if (v x n) 2000f1 Fß dm + 160 x 10-7 f0 dm3 if (v x n) < 2000 Note that viscosity is in centistokes. The load (Fß) depends on the bearing type as follows: Radial cylindrical roller bearings: Fß = max. 0.8Fa cot or Fr{ ﹛Table 22. Torque Rotation Torque – The resistance to rotation of an M bearing depends on load, speed, lubrication conditions, and inherent characteristics of the bearing. The following formula can approximate the bearing rotation torque. These formulas apply to oil lubricated bearings. For grease-lubricated or oil-mist lubricated bearings, torque is generally lower, although grease-lubricated torque also depends on the amount and viscosity of the grease. Furthermore, the formula is based on the assumption that the rotational torque of the bearing has stabilized after the running-in period.
Lubrication To reduce friction in bearings, lubrication is required to: • Minimize rolling resistance due to deformation of rolling elements and raceways under load • Minimize sliding friction between rolling elements, raceways and cages • Transfer heat ( Use oil lubrication) • Corrosion protection, use grease lubrication to prevent contamination from entering the lubrication and sealing
